Pitch system

The pitch system consists of sensors, actuators, and a control unit that are integrated into the hub of the wind turbine. The automatic adjustment of the rotor blade angle to the prevailing wind conditions is achieved through electric or hydraulic actuators in which pressure and temperature must be monitored to ensure smooth operation.

Warm-air heating in the rotor blade

Rotor blades are subject to large temperature fluctuations and moisture which can lead to ice formation, ice shedding, and an impairment of the aerodynamic features of the blades in winter. That is why the warm air heating system continuously monitors the temperature of the rotor blades using precise sensor technology and controls the heating process to prevent icing at an early stage.

Electrothermal heating elements

The rotor blade heating system consists of integrated heating mats or heating wires that are activated as soon as the sensors in the rotor detect ice formation or low temperatures. They specifically heat the critical points on the leading edge of each rotor blade that are prone to icing.

Rotor blade production

A rotor blade consists of epoxy resin carbon fiber laminate or glass fiber laminate which is manufactured using the vacuum infusion process. The fabric mats laid out in the mold are saturated with resin while in a vacuum and heated in a controlled manner. Due to the size of the rotor blades, many temperature control loops are required to ensure even hardening.
